Mary Penelope
"Penny" (Jewell) Wildman
Nov 12, 1941 — Dec 25, 2017
Mary Penelope (Penny) Wildman was born Wednesday, November 12, 1941 to Claude and Iris Jewell (the firstborn of two children) in Tipton, Oklahoma, a farming community. She married Douglas Wildman on May 6, 1977. They had one daughter, Tamra (TJ) Brayer. Penny is survived by her husband of 40 years, Doug Wildman, daughter Tamra Brayer and husband Jeff. She was blessed with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Abigail Brayer, Miranda Klinner, Jeffrey Brayer, Ariel Brayer, Cameron Brayer, Brooke and Kylee Brayer and Isabella Klinner as well as nephews Charles Jewell, Jr., Cameron Jewell and niece Candice Terry. Penny was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Iris Jewell and her brother Charles Jewell. Penny gently passed away in the early afternoon hours of Monday, December 25, 2017 at the age of 76 with her husband Doug, daughter Tamra, son-in-law Jeff and granddaughter Abigail by her side.
Penny graduated from Tipton High School as valedictorian and attended Oklahoma State University majoring in Music and Business. Music was an important part of Penny's life. She learned to play the piano at age seven and was offered a full scholarship to a wellknown music academy in St. Louis at the tender age of 12. She did not want to leave her family for the next six years and declined the opportunity. She played the trumpet in middle and high school often playing first chair. Her musical gifts would later be enjoyed by her spiritual brothers and sisters when she was given the privilege to play the piano at the Kingdom Hall and her beloved trumpet in the assembly orchestras for several years.
She was an accomplished seamstress and learned to crochet from her mother-in-law as an adult. An avid reader, one could often find her reading the latest publications on JW Library and researching secular books and internet sites for health information that she readily shared with family and friends. Although housebound for the last few years, she always listened in to the meetings on a regular basis and took advantage of the recorded conventions with Doug by her side. You could hear their voices sing the Kingdom songs together in their living room in tandem with the congregation.
Penny cherished her role as Doug's wife and as a mother. She took her role as wife seriously to the very end of her life as she left reminders to her daughter for his care. Penny was the embodiment of the woman described in Proverbs chapter 31 caring for her husband as well as other family members including her mother, great aunt and mother-in-law to the end of their lives. She symbolized her dedication as one of Jehovah's Witnesses with baptism on August 29, 1960 and served faithfully and maintained her integrity to Jehovah even under life-threatening conditions. Penny never wavered in her stance. She is missed desperately by her family and friends but we take comfort knowing she is safe in the "sleeper car" to Paradise and in Jehovah's gentle care.
