Graveside Services for former Frederick resident, Melvin Ray Counterman, age 80, of Snyder, Oklahoma, will be Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Brent Morey officiating. Services are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Counterman passed away early Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023, at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.

Melvin Ray Counterman was born on February 23, 1943, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Troy Walter and Mary Alice (Hollister) Counterman. He attended Dodge City High School and also went to Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army. After twenty years of service, he retired in 1995 at the rank of Staff Sargent. He was stationed at Fort Sill at the time of his retirement. From Fort Sill, he started working at Schlegal, Inc., in Frederick. He also worked at Community Access doing home care.

Melvin was united in marriage to Grace Alice Edwards on August 9, 2011, in Frederick, Oklahoma. Grace preceded him in death on August 12, 2019. They were members of the Bible Baptist Church in Frederick.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Mary Wade of Henderson, Texas; four grandchildren, Shawn Hodges, Susan Kohlhaas and her husband, Stephen, John Gaddy, and Shayla Wade; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Grace, son, Johnnie Edwards; son-in-law, George E Wade; his grandmother, Mary Alice Hollister; and his brother, Marvin LeRoy Counterman.
