Memorial service for Michael Wayne Powell age 69, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Elder Wayne Ingalls officiating. Inurnment will be in Morton, Minnesota. Mr. Powell passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at his home in Tipton. Michael Wayne Powell was born December 2, 1945, in Altus, Oklahoma to Raymond Thompson and Allene Francis (Barnes) Powell. He attended Tipton Public Schools and later transferred to Altus where he graduated from Altus High School. He served in the United States Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his stint in the military he attended Central State University in Edmond. He loved playing the "horn" and hit the road as an accomplished musician. He played the trumpet in the Oklahoma City area for several years in a Jazz Band. Michael attended police academy in Oklahoma City and later worked as a police officer in Norman and then served as Chief of Police in Tipton. Michael returned and finished his education and attended Vernon Regional Junior College where he received his Registered Nurses Degree. He worked for 21 years as a Traveling Registered Nurse in the states of Alaska, Vermont, California, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. He retired in 2014. He is survived by one brother, Allen Ray Powell and his wife Jennie of Tipton, Oklahoma; one grandson, Michael Dylan Powell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two nieces, Rebecca Western and her husband Ken of Edmond, Oklahoma and Kimberly Russell and her husband David of Tipton, Oklahoma; and several great-nieces and nephews.
