Funeral service for Myrtle Appling age 89, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.K. Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Appling went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 12, 2018, in a Lawton hospital.
Myrtle (Smith) Appling was born January 4, 1929, in Boswell, Oklahoma to Thaddeus Warsaw and Florence (Collins) Smith. She attended Boswell Elementary and graduated from Boyd High School in 1949, as Valedictorian of her class. In 1968, she was in marriage to Marion Appling in Frederick, Oklahoma. Mr. Appling preceded her in death on February 4, 2013. Mrs. Appling was a true lady who had a quite spirit. She was an excellent seamstress and cook and was known for her pecan pies. She was a loving mother who was committed to her family. Reflecting back, her daughters remember she always was able to discipline them without yelling. She was a faithful, lifelong member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she served as Church Mother and Church Clerk. Also, she had served as Mission President and had taught Sunday School her entire life.
Mrs. Appling is survived by five daughters, Cathy Gossett of Wichita Falls, Texas, TiJuana Menefee and her husband Larry of Wichita Falls, Texas, Marnita Archie of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Lachelle Wilson and her husband Anthony of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Tara Brown and her husband Timothy of Brush, Colorado; two brothers, James Smith of Frederick, Oklahoma and Wade Smith and his wife Lola of Frederick, Oklahoma; three sisters, Jerlene Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, Franceil Lang of Alexandria, Virginia and Shirley Stevenson and her husband Jimmie of Lawton, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Bernard Shaw, Clinton Shaw, Tamarasha Smith, Deidre Menefee, Tiana Gaines, Lathon Archie, III, Lacy Archie Canada, Jarren Gonzalez, Brice McClellon, Eboni Appling, Timothy Brown and Cassidy Brown; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion Appling; one granddaughter, Amber Archie; four brothers, Jessie, Dave, W.D. and Henry Smith; three sisters, Addie Mae Gordon, Magalene Miller and Mary Norris; and two sons-in-law, Derel Gossett and Lathon Archie, Jr.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday evening, January 19, 2018, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
