Obituary

Celebration of the life of Opal Mae Williams, age 77, of Hobart, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Washington Street, Hobart, Oklahoma with Rev. Charles King officiating. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Danny Griffin officiating. Services are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Williams passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at her home in Hobart.

Opal Mae (Hudson) Remmert Williams was born on November 14, 1940 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Frank and Edna (Hickerson) Hudson. After the death of her mother, at the age of twelve, Opal went to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Wynnell and L.L. Jackson in Frederick. She attended Victory Consolidated #11 School. After transferring to Frederick Public School, she graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1959. She then attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford where she was selected the sweetheart queen for the "O" Letterman Club. She graduated from Southwestern in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. On December 27, 1964, she married Bob Remmert in Frederick. He preceded her in death. She taught at Burns Flat for several years and then transferred to Hobart where she taught for over 30 years; retiring in 1994. Opal was united in marriage to Jim "Weegie" Williams on June 4, 1995 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Weegie Williams; two step-daughters, Weegina Williams of Norman, Oklahoma and Donna Roth and her husband David of San Diego, California; six nieces and nephews, Melynna Hewitt and her husband James of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Tony Jackson and his wife Debra of Frederick, Oklahoma, Jan Jackson of Davidson, Oklahoma, Gale Wallis of Port Townsend, Washington, David Wallis and his wife Ann of Sacramento, California and Monte Richards and his wife Ginny of Austin, Texas; two step grandchildren Indigo and Zane Roth, a very special friend and sister at heart, Jane Sparks of Mangum, Oklahoma; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Bob Remmert; a sister and brother-in-law, Wynnell and L. L. Jackson; and four brothers, Marshall, Victor, Wesley and Dutch Wallis.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation - Alzheimer's Research or the First United Methodist Church / Hobart School Scholarship Fund in memory of Opal Mae Williams.
