Obituary

Funeral service for Paulo Cortez age 77, of Davidson, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2022, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick, Oklahoma.  Burial will follow in the Davidson Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.  Mr. Cortez passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Memorial Nursing Center in Frederick.

Paulo Cortez was born May 1, 1944, in Three Rivers, Texas to Bernardino and Maria (Perez) Cortez.  He attended school in Lamesa, Texas.  On July 17, 1964, he and Rosalinda Lopez were united in marriage in Lamesa, Texas.  He worked as a farm laborer for many years.  Paulo had a true Servant's Heart; in 2000, he was called to minister with The Church of God of The Firstborn.  He was a true Christian gentleman, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was an excellent provider for his family.  Paulo, Rosa, and the kids enjoyed packing a lunch and would travel to visit their extended family.  His family was very important to him.  They always enjoyed going to church meetings in the summers for two weeks at a time.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing.  One of the things that Paulo was known for was his butterscotch candy.  He was a member of The Church of God of The Firstborn.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosalinda Lopez Cortez of the home; two sons, Hector Cortez, Sr. and his friend Karen Brady of Davidson, Oklahoma, and Jeremiah Cortez of Davidson, Oklahoma; six daughters, Dora Cofer of Wichita Falls, Texas, Irene Cortez and her fiance' Jameson Davis of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Irma Cortez of Davidson, Oklahoma, Becky Franklin and her husband Michael of Baker City, Oregon, Phebe Cortez of Davidson, Oklahoma, and Priscilla Cortez of Altus, Oklahoma;  one daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Cortez of Davidson, Oklahoma; two brothers, Lasaro Cortez of Temple, Texas, and Elias Cortez and his wife Dalia of Lamesa, Texas; two sisters, Anita Deleon of Temple, Texas and Mary Mojica of Lamesa, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernardino and Maria Cortez; one son, Ismael Cortez, Sr.; one daughter, Esther Cortez; and one great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick.
