Obituary

Funeral service for Peggy Dunn, age 94, of rural Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, 921 West Gladstone Avenue, Frederick, Oklahoma, with Jimmie C. Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.  Mrs. Dunn passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Maple Lawn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hydro, Oklahoma.

Peggy Lou Wittmeyer was born on October 9, 1929, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to John William and Mabel Dorothy (Perkins) Wittmeyer.  She attended the two-room Union School, northwest of Frederick, through the eighth grade.  She transferred to Frederick and graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1947.  While in high school, she was active in Glee Club, Pep Club, and the Vagabond Club.  Her senior year she was honored as top student in typing and shorthand.

On October 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Billie Wayne Dunn, at her parents' home.  They established their home on a farm south of Tipton. To this union were born four children, Donna Sue, Nancy Jane, Billie Wayne, Jr., and Carol Anne.

Peggy worked by Bill's side in the farming operation.  She would hoe cotton, change the irrigation gates, haul the wet burlap sacks by hand, pull the cotton trailers to the gin with their pick-up, take meals to the field, and go for parts.  After Bill's death, she continued to manage the farming operation for many years.

She was a former member of the Friendship Home Demonstration Club, Tipton Delphian Club, and the Tipton Chamber of Commerce, serving as secretary.  She served as home room mother for her children's grade school classes.  Bill and Peggy were the parent sponsors for many band trips, speech contests, and various activities with "Daddy Bill" driving the bus. Peggy helped with Vacation Bible School, served on the food committee at church, and oversaw the Daffodil Sunday for many years.  Her hobby was sewing, she made many clothes for her children, and taught her daughters how to sew.  Peggy loved jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles and figuring out the answers on Wheel of Fortune, before anyone else could!

She is survived by her three children, Nancy Loeffler of Monroe Township, New Jersey, Billie and Linda Dunn, Jr. of Virginia, and Carol and Rodney Cowan of Watonga, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Stephen and Erika Loeffler, Kaitlyn and Chris Donaghue, Ashley Cowan Neal and Jeff Neal, Lance and Amy Cowan, Kelsey and Kurtis Shaw, and Kari and Colby Hetherington; and ten great-grandchildren, Dalton Cowan, Clark Hetherington, Matthew Cowan, Abigail Hetherington, Kinley Shaw, Kacie Shaw, Evelyn Cowan, Eli Hetherington, Connor Cowan, and Jack Loeffler.

She was preceded in death by her father, John William Wittmeyer in 1960, her mother, Mabel Dorothy (Perkins) Wittmeyer in 1979, her daughter, Donna Sue Dunn in 1972, her husband, Billie Wayne Dunn, Sr., in 1990, her only brother, Robert Henry Wittmeyer in 2012, and a son-in-law, Gary Loeffler in 2018.
