Obituary

Funeral service for Rachel Fisher Davenport Butenschoen, age 96, of Frederick will be on 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Peace Congregational Church of rural Indiahoma, Oklahoma with Roger Fischer, cousin, officiating.  The family will receive friends and family the day of the service at the church from 12 noon till the time of service. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Butenschoen passed away peacefully at Sienna Extended Care and Rehab in Midwest City, Oklahoma on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Rachel was born on December 23, 1921 in the family home in rural Chattanooga, Oklahoma to Fred and Sarah Bierig Fisher, Sr. Rachel attended Hiawatha School thru the eighth grade as did all her siblings. She married Don M. Davenport in 1945 and lived in Grandfield, Oklahoma, where she owned the Keep-U-Kneet Cleaners. Rachel had many talents: she was an accomplished seamstress, making many, many garments for her family; she has quite the quilt collection she has made during her 96 years, including those she made as a teenager; she enjoyed having her family gather at her house for fellowship and a home cooked meal. In 1975, she married George Butenschoen and moved to Seminole, Oklahoma where she assisted George on a registered Gernsey Dairy farm. After their retirement, they moved to Frederick where she grew an abundant vegetable garden and had beautiful flower beds. She is probably best known for the many pecan pies, chocolate sheet cakes, angel food cakes, apricot fried pies and peanut brittle.

Rachel and her siblings were reared with a Christian influence, respect and hard work by their parents. Sundays were always set aside for the Lord and their church. Rachel was confirmed at an early age at the Peace Congregational Church where many Fisher families still attend. It is only fitting that her services be held there as she completed her circle of life here on earth. She is rejoicing in heaven now!

Rachel is survived by two daughters, Anita Jean Brown and her husband Bill of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Bonnie Jane Howell and her husband Jerry of Enid, Oklahoma; George's daughter, Mary Nell Dubois and her husband Ken of North Richland Hills, Texas; two granddaughters, Jennifer Leigh Brown and her husband Steve Kudron of Grand Lake, Colorado and Alicia Jane Jackson of Edmond, Oklahoma; George's grandson, John Butenschoen of Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jakie Alan Lowery of Grand Lake, Oklahoma, David Lee Wolf of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Emily Caroline Jackson of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Martha Krasser of Chattanooga, Oklahoma; and one brother, Adam Fisher of Indiahoma, Oklahoma and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sarah Fisher, Sr.; both husbands, Don M. Davenport and George Butenschoen; three sisters, Ruth Zitterkob, Mollie Biesel, and Elsie Lowery; two brothers, Fred Fisher, Jr. and George Fisher; four brothers-in-law, Ruben Zitterkob, Alex Biesel, Don Lowery and George Krasser; three sisters-in-law, Atha Mae Fisher, Dovie Fisher and Ruby Fisher; and two nephews, Chester L. Fisher and Fred L. Krasser.
