Mr. Anderson passed away at home on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Burial with U.S. Army military honors will be held at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.

He was born on March 24, 1951, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Lester “Gene” and Betty Jo (Cosgrove) Anderson. Percy attended Frederick schools and graduated from FHS with the Class of 1969.

Following high school, Percy enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. His military service included deployments and missions in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Loas, followed by an assignment in Germany. Percy was special forces member of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam-Studies and Observations Group), which was a top-secret unconventional warfare unit operating from 1964-1972. They conducted highly classified cross-border missions, including strategic reconnaissance, sabotage, psychological warfare, and prisoner snatches deep behind enemy lines in Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned numerous awards and decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Greek Parachute Badge, Thailand Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, and the Expert Badge with Rifle Bar. After more than seven years of dedicated and decorated service, he was honorably discharged as SSG on April 4, 1977.

In 1982, he was united in marriage to LaDonna Kimbrough at Wichita Falls, Texas. Percy began working for the City of Frederick as a lineman in the Electric Department. He also owned and operated his own wrecker service and dedicated countless hours to serving others as a volunteer firefighter for the Frederick Fire Department and as an EMT. He continued his work as a firefighter at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, providing service at the Frederick Airport Auxiliary Station. From Sheppard AFB, he transferred to the Fort Sill Army Base, where he retired after 22 years of firefighter civil service.

Percy lived life with enthusiasm and adventure. In his younger years, he enjoyed rodeoing and competing in the bareback bronc riding event. He loved mountain climbing and both snow skiing and water skiing. He had a lifelong appreciation for firearms, history and military heritage. He frequently participated in Civil War and Old West re-enactments. Additional hobbies include reading and watching war and western movies. He was a great storyteller. He loved to joke and laugh but also had a serious side.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his dad Gene in 2002 and his mother Betty Jo in 2004; his wife LaDonna in 2005; a son Brandon Dewayne, and a great nephew Steven Dewayne Jackson.

Survivors include two sisters: Kathryn Anderson of Lawton, and Jean Ann McPhail and husband Dallas of Mt. Park; a brother: Michael “Mike” Anderson and wife Kathy of Manitou; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Oklahoma Firefighters Foundation, 10825 Taylor Paige Drive, Midwest City, OK 73130, in loving memory of Percy Anderson.
