Funeral services for Robert Lee Deckard, age 86, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, former Frederick resident, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2006, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Derrick Johnson officiating.
Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
Reverend Deckard passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026, at his home in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Robert Deckard was born February 1, 1940, to Minnie Lee Johnson and Lonnie L.Z. Deckard in Ferris, Texas. He was born at home under the care of a midwife. He had 13 siblings who all have preceded him in death. He loved and cherished his family. He married Clara Beatrice Thomas in 1988 at Altus, Oklahoma and stayed by her side for 40 years until her passing. Robert had a blended family of 11 children, 8 girls Yolaunda, Sherry, Wanda, Shirley Anne, Deborah, Rene, Lucille, Kelsey and 3 boys Roger, Rickey and Darryl. Additionally, he and Clara raised and adopted their grandchildren Darcale, Christopher, Kim and loved them as their own. Robert also had many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they loved and cherished. He had a special relationship with his nieces, nephews, family, neighbors and friends.
Robert served in the United States Army from 1964 through 1967. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, near Newport News, Virginia and later served a year in Vietnam. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during his military career. He worked on a farm performing numerous tasks. Robert loved fishing, music and singing. One of his hobbies was working on cars. In his younger years, he was a part of a band that traveled and performed locally. On certain occasions he enjoyed baking homemade cakes and sweets for his family. Robert lived and loved life! He had a big and giving heart, often stopping to help stranded motorist and anyone in need. Robert loved the Lord! He was a Deacon in the church for many years and also held worship and prayer at the homes of those who were unable to attend church. Robert was a cherished memory of the community of Frederick, Oklahoma where he lived most of his life and he will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him.
Mr. Deckard is survived by seven daughters: Sherry Hatcher (Reginald), Shirley Wren, Yolaunda Ferrell (Jermaine), Kelsey Deckard, Lucille Deckard, Debra Ann Deckard, Rena Deckard; one son: Rickey Deckard; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Clara B. (Thomas) Deckard; and his two sons: Darryl E. Deckard and Roger Deckard.
Thank you, family and friends who came to visit, pray with and prayed for Robert. A special thank you to granddaughter Candace Thomas, Brenda Triplet, Amanda Moss and Doris Calhoun for helping with care. A special appreciation to Apex Hospice and his nurses Joy and Ashley.
