Memorial Service for Roy Lee Thrash, age 82, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Rev. Les Banks officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Thrash passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020, in Electra, Texas.
Roy Lee Thrash was born October 25, 1937, in Frederick, Oklahoma to James Robert and Crystal Madeline (Lawson) Thrash. He attended Manitou Public Schools, graduating from Manitou High School in 1956; and later served in the United States Air Force. On August 13, 1960, he and Lidia Gi'ovanna were united in marriage in Cividale Del Friuli, Italy. Roy worked as a truck driver for Republic Gypsum in Duke, Oklahoma for over 30 years.
Known as Big Roy to many, he enjoyed quail hunting and fishing with Lidia, the kids, and grandkids. He had a passion for baseball when he was younger and was able to pass this along to his kids by coaching their little league teams. When he wasn't coaching, Roy always put family first by never missing a game. Him and his family spent many Saturday nights at the dinner table playing poker. As a Papa, he sure was ornery and he'd get a good laugh out of taking his dentures out to scare all the grandkids. At the many holiday get togethers, he'd tell stories of how him and Granny met while he was stationed in Italy in the Air Force. They both enjoyed joking around with each other and this was really their way of showing everyone their love for one another. Roy also had a sweet tooth, basically lived off of Little Debbie's and cookies, and fed his beloved dog, Cinderella, the same. He enjoyed watching the Oklahoma Sooners on tv and you'd rarely see him without his OU hat on too! Most of all, it was evident that his greatest treasure was his family and the love that they shared. He will forever be missed but he will always be with us.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Buchanan and her husband Tony of Altus, Oklahoma; two sons, Roy Thrash, Jr. and his wife Tonya of Mooreland, Oklahoma and Freddie Thrash and his wife Wendy of Electra, Texas; ten grandchildren, Rye Wilhite and his wife Megan, Gary Lee Thrash and his wife Kenlee, Tanner Thrash, Lindsey Hudson and her husband Jordan, Jarrod Wilhite, Matt Wilhite, Delaney Thrash, Charlee Ford and her husband Jarrod, Trebse Stoup and her husband Clayton, and Vallie Thrash; and ten great-grandchildren, Raylee Ford, Kate Ford, Syland Stoup, Shole Stoup, Sage Wilhite, Texi Thrash, Teazli Thrash, Trainor Thrash, Hadley Hudson and Bennett Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lidia Thrash; four brothers, Bub Thrash, Ruke Thrash, Bobby Thrash, and Casey Thrash; and two sisters, Lorene Koren and Dovie McCain.
