Funeral service for Russell Sylvester Dorsey age 73, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Tipton with Pastor Dwight B. Singleton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.  Mr. Dorsey passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.

Russell Sylvester Dorsey was born March 6, 1949, in Abingdon, Maryland to Thomas Edward and Ruth Ann (Harris) Dorsey.  He attended elementary and middle school at Central Consolidated School in Hickory, Maryland, and then transferred to Edgewater High School in Edgewater, Maryland where he graduated with the Class of 1967.  He entered the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Conflict and Cold War.  He was an Air Traffic Controller for over 19 years while in the military.  After his discharge, he moved to Tipton, Oklahoma where he worked for the City of Tipton and later the Texas Youth Center in Vernon, Texas.  Russell was an avid baseball fan, he enjoyed dancing, loved all types of food, was an outstanding landscaper and enjoyed watching football, old western movies, and the nightly news.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dyian Dorsey of Tipton, Oklahoma; three sons, Russell Sylvester Dorsey, Jr., Eric Rashad Dorsey and his wife Anahali, and Gregory J. Keith Dorsey all of Tipton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Angnette Ruth Dorsey of Seattle, Washington; one brother, Mark N. Dorsey and his wife Sharron of Aberdeen, Maryland; five grandchildren, Travis Dorsey, Devin Dorsey, Dante Dorsey, Ariana Dorsey, and Isaiah Hill; one great-grandson, Terrain Joseph Dorsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruth Dorsey; one brother, William Harris Dorsey; and two sisters, Shirley Holt, and Alice Webster.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday evening, August 26, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Tipton.
