Private family burial will follow in the Cache Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Robinson passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016, in a Lawton care center.
Ruth Marie (Barker) Robinson, lovingly called "Me Me" by her family, was born April 19, 1919, southeast of Fletcher, Oklahoma on Little Washita Creek. She lived her entire life in Comanche County. Her father, James Henry Barker a farmer, and her mother, Martha Elizabeth (Hestand) Barker a former school teacher, had and raised four children: David Byron Barker, herself - Ruth Marie Barker, Frederick Henry Barker and James Buck Barker.
Me Me started to school when she was five years old. She attended three rural schools; Scott School, which was located at 67th and Cache Road, Mountain View School, which was located north of Rogers Lane and Spring Valley School, which was later consolidated with Cache. All of the schools that she attended were one room schools that had a teacher that taught grades one through eight in the same room. Since her first grade teacher, Catherine Nix, had only a few students enrolled at Scott School, she allowed her to start school with her brother Dave who was eighteen months older than she. They walked as much as a mile through pastures to get to school, caring their lunch in Rex Jelly Buckets. Her family later rented a farm from the Pahcheka family. She and her brothers then rode a school truck to Cache School. The bed of the truck was made of wood and had benches on each side for the children to ride on. She began in Cache in a two story red brick building with a basement. The school later burnt in the 40's. Ruth Marie Barker graduated with the "Class of 1938".
Me Me married John Otha Robinson in Lawton, Oklahoma. John O. worked at Fort Sill for thirty- three years as a foreman of the Tank and Tractor Shop. They were married fifty-three years at his death on September 5, 1991. Me Me once said, "I would probably have been an old maid if it hadn't been for the CCC Camp. John O. Robinson was a foreman in the Wichita Mountains and I was a senior at Cache High School when we met – We were married the 28th day of May, 1938."
She has lived at her present home in Cache since 1948. The family had a cow that they milked; raised chickens and pigs which their daughters showed in 4-H. The family would grow a large garden, and she would can the vegetables and fruit that they raised.
Marie had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Cache since July 17, 1939. She loved to crotchet, read, work puzzle books, and was an excellent roller skater. She loved to recite poetry. Her flower garden and yard was always an enjoyment to her. She celebrated her 88th birthday riding the motorcycle behind her grandson, Kevin Putney; cruising Cache and stopping at the Sonic for everyone to see her. She was presently talking about celebrating her 98th birthday on the motorcycle again and going up Mountain Scott.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou (Robinson) Putney and her husband Hershel Leon of Cache, OK; a son-in-law, Paul Leon Zweiacker of College Station, TX; three grandchildren, Susan Annette Wheeler and her husband Bart of Chattanooga, OK, Kevin Leon Putney and his wife Dena of Huntsville, AR and Gregory Paul Zweiacker and his wife Jen of Bryan, TX; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Leon Duplechain and his wife Rachel of Lawton, OK, Jennifer Marie Brockman and her husband David of Harrah, OK and Darick Michael Putney of Longview, TX; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Trevor Isaac Duplechain, Garett, Beckett, Parker and Paxton Brockman and Marleigh and Driver Putney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Martha Barker; her husband, John O. Robinson; one daughter, Jo Ann (Robinson) Zweiacker; and three brothers, David Byron Barker, Frederick Henry Barker and James Buck Barker.
