Memorial graveside service for Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Samuel Otis Walton, age 78, of Altus, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery, Grandfield, Oklahoma, with Pastor Adam Saavedra, The Door Church, officiating.
MSgt. Walton passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Lawton Fort Sill Veterans Center.
Burial with U.S. Air Force Military Honors is under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
He was born on December 4, 1946, in Glen Daniel, West Virginia, to Ossie and Lucy (Clark) Walton. He attended Columbus, Ohio schools, and graduated from South High School with the Class of 1964. Following his high school graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He served station assignments in numerous foreign countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Guam, Germany, and England. He worked as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist for 6 years, an Aircraft Maintenance Technician for 7 years, a Strategic Aircraft Maintenance Technician for 4 years, and an Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent for 5 years. He proudly served his country and loved working on airplanes. He retired September 30, 1986, after more than 22 years of honorable service. Among the decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons awarded were: Air Force Commendation Medal with Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with One Silver and One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Silver and Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was united in marriage to Hattie Marie Isham on February 14, 1980, in Vernon, Texas.
After his military service, he attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Oklahoma, received his Associates Degree, and began teaching. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and flying his plane on flight simulation technology. He served as Deacon at Glad Tidings Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife: Hattie M. Walton, of Altus; a son: Caleb Walton and wife Alexis, of Oklahoma City; two daughters: Lachella Bosom, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Angie McGee, of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers: Brian Walton and wife Chiquita, of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Barry Walton and wife Lisa, of Richmond, Virginia; one sister: Denise Ben and husband Jeffery, of California; 14 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Dina Marie Walton; a brother: Stephen Walton; and a sister: Leda Walton.
