Obituary

Funeral service for Thelma Jackson, age 91, of Cache, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Cache, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Cache Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Jackson passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in a Lawton care facility.

Thelma Farmer Jackson was born on May 31, 1925 in Wills Point, Texas to Marion Columbus and Leora (Brown) Farmer. In 1930, she moved with her family to Mountain Park, Oklahoma, then later to northwest of Indiahoma and settling south of Cache in 1940. She had attended school in both Indiahoma and Cache. Thelma was a hard worker. She worked at Ken's Grocery in Cache, Cole's Cleaners in Lawton and spent 21 years as a checker at Herb's Grocery in Lawton before retiring in 1988.

She helped her husband Calvin Jackson with the car wash and Kerr McGee station in Cache. She was also the hub that held the family together especially during the holidays. She loved to bake and feed her children and grandchildren and anyone else who just happened to show up. Her family will always remember fondly the meals and desserts shared at her house in Cache. According to them she was the best pie maker in the world. She loved her church and was a very active member of the New Life Assembly. She taught Sunday school, helped with Bible school, was the church secretary for years and loved to sing. She was there to serve meals at all of the potluck dinners, bean suppers and bereavement dinners.

She was survived by five children, Nancy Arms and husband David of Cache, Venita Sue Blanton and husband Tommy of Geronimo, Rita Crabtree and husband Bob of Cache, Darla Camp of Cache and James Hare and wife Terri of Cache; four step-children, Bobby Jackson and wife Cheryl of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Loretta Neugebauer of Ozark, Missouri, Louella Simmons of Granbury, Texas and Paula Hightower of Cache; one brother, Alvin Farmer of Fletcher, Oklahoma; twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, two brothers, R.E. and Calvin Farmer, two sisters, Lorean Barkley and Hazel Jones; grandson, Eddie Ray Overstreet, one grand-daughter Konnie Neugebauer, and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Wisner Roach and Austin Shay Barber.

Her family wants to send a special thank you to the nurses in Memory Care at McMahon-Tomlinson Care Facility for their love and care of our Mom and Grandma.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the New Life Assembly in Cache on Friday evening, March 17, 2017.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Research in memory of Thelma Jackson.
