Funeral service for Thomas "Junior" Reed age 92 of Faxon, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Faxon with Rev. Robert Jacobson and Rev. Vivian Garza officiating. Burial will follow in the Faxon Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Reed passed away Monday, March 1, 2021, at his home in Faxon.
Thomas Jefferson Reed, Jr. was born March 21, 1928, in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Thomas Jefferson and Lola Virginia (Wright) Reed. He attended Shady Grove Public School near Coalgate. He served in Japan in the United States Army from 1947 until 1950. On June 3, 1950, he and Effie Mourine Plumbtree were united in marriage in Lawton, Oklahoma. After returning from the military, he farmed and worked for Jay Crow Machine Shop. Later he worked for the United States Postal Service where he served as Postmaster in Faxon for over 30 years; retiring in 1987. Junior and Effie loved to travel; they were members and traveled with the Good Sam R.V. Club for many years. He was a loyal and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Faxon and served on the Faxon Cemetery Board for years.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Lacy and her husband Jerry, and Lesa Williams and her husband Larry, all of Faxon, Oklahoma; one brother, Doyal Reed and his wife Wilma of Sherman, Texas; one sister, Mildred Shoopman of Lawton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Amanda Grimes and her husband Brent, April Huitt and her husband Robert, Larry Reed Williams, and Ryan Thomas Williams and his wife Krystal; six great-grandchildren, Gage Grimes, Lacy Grimes, Weston Huitt, Trace Huitt, Kord Williams, and Harley Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lola Reed; his wife, Effie Reed who preceded him in death on February 11, 2020; one brother, Buford Reed; and four sisters, Louise Moeller, Dorotha Hampton, Eva Woods, and Leona Pasquali.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 215 S. 7 th Street, Faxon, Oklahoma 73540, in memory of Thomas "Junior" Reed.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, March 5, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Faxon from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
