Funeral service for Tommy Neal Herring, Sr., age 77, of Tipton, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Tipton with Ray Beavers, Justin Kliewer and Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Herring passed away Friday evening, February 7, 2020, in Tipton, Oklahoma.
Tommy Neal Herring was born March 27, 1942 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Vernard Laverne (Barney) and Lois Lee (Powers) Herring. He attended Tipton Public Schools, graduating from Tipton High School with the Class of 1960. On September 4, 1964, he married Judy Quay Michael in Vernon, Texas. Tommy was in the Army from 1964 to 1966, during that time he worked on missiles during the Cuban Crisis. He had several occupations during his lifetime including: working at the gin in Tipton, was the farm manager at the Tipton Children's Home, assistant manager at Cyanimid Farm Supply in Manitou, and operated Herring Custom Harvesting. He also enjoyed raising goats. Tommy was a volunteer firefighter for over twenty years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tipton.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of the home; three sons, Tommy Neal Herring, Jr. of Tipton, Oklahoma, Brett Michael Herring and his wife Nikki May of Lawton, Oklahoma, Bobby Kade Herring and his wife Holly of Newcastle, Oklahoma; two brothers, JW Herring of Dallas, Texas, and Bobby Rex Herring and his wife Candy of Hurst, Texas; one sister Betty Lou Broyals of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, four sister-in-laws, Barbara Lee Herring of Perkins, Oklahoma, Mary Whitehead and husband Jerry of Watauga, Texas, Rita Linsley and husband Jerry of Haltom City,Texas, and Sue Michael of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, Trea Herring and his wife Elaina of Tipton, Oklahoma, Jeremy Herring of Frederick, Oklahoma, Stockton Kade Herring and Creed Michael Herring both of Newcastle, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Coltyn, Paytton, Kayson Herring all of Tipton, Oklahoma, and Parker Herring of Frederick, Oklahoma; life-long friend, Ellyn Huff;  and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Lois Herring; two brothers, Laverne Herring and Johnny Herring; and one sister, Ira Sue Collington.
