Celebration of Life for former Frederick resident, Troy Richard Dill age 76, of Cookson, Oklahoma will be on his birthday, June 14, 2025, at Lake Tenkiller. Per Rick's request he wanted a "Big Ass Party". He passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his sister's home in Frederick, surrounded by his family. Arrangements are under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.
Troy Richard "Rick" Dill was born June 14, 1948, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Troy Cecil and Francis Georgine (Gordon) Dill. He attended Frederick Public School, graduating from Frederick High School with the Class of 1966. He later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. On December 13, 1974, he and Teresa (Montoya) Qualls were united in marriage in Gallup, New Mexico. Rick served as head football coach at Crownpoint, New Mexico. He later transferred to Valley High School in Turkey, Texas where he served as head football coach and started the track program there. Rick moved to Bristow. Oklahoma as the girls' basketball coach; later serving as assistant football coach and eventually the offensive coordinator. Rick moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma in 1994, and served as assistant football coach until his retirement several years later.
In 1999, Rick was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaching Hall of Fame. He loved to fish and was one of the reasons he and Teresa moved to Lake Tenkiller. Another favorite pastime was front porch conversations with his "Lake Friends". He never met a stranger and was always finding a way to make people laugh. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Frederick.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa Dill; two daughters, Tina Wright and her husband Kevin, and Gina Hatfield and her husband John; one sister, Marky Morton; three brothers-in-law, Bob Bresenham, John Starling, and John Montoya; five grandchildren, Cooper Wright, Carlee Wright, Madison Mathews and her husband Dylan, Jillian Hatfield, and Abigayle Hatfield; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Mathews and Parker Mathews; three nieces, Shelby Morton, Krissy Mustard and her husband Brian, and Kirstina Munday and her husband Chris; one nephew, John Starling and his wife Caroline; nine great-nephews and nieces, J.T. Herndon, Hannah Herndon, Jace Mustard, Jackson Munday, Trenton Starling, Chad Montoya, Isabella Munday, Scarlett Starling, and Kim (Montoya) McIntire and her husband Dennis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Cecil Dill; his mother, Francis Georgine Dill Hutton; his stepfather, Coy Dixon Hutton, Jr.; one sister, Darla (Dill) Bresenham; one brother-in-law, John D. Morton; one sister-in-law, Mary Beth Starling; one nephew, Tyce Gaudreault; and one great-nephew, Kyle Morton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice in memory of Troy Richard "Rick" Dill.
