Obituary

Graveside service for Wayne Ray, age 77, of Tuttle, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Ray passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in an Oklahoma City Hospital. Wayne Ray was born on March 12, 1938 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Robert Carl and Allie Mae (Nelson) Ray. He graduated from Grandfield High School and briefly attended Oklahoma A & M, in Lawton. On April 20, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mae Schrick. They had recently celebrated their 58 anniversary. When Wayne and Mae were first married, they moved to Plainview, Texas where he earned a pilot's license. Flying remained a life-long interest. Wayne had worked at TransCon Lines in Oklahoma City for over 25 years. Most of those years, he drove a cross-country route from Oklahoma City to California. He earned the distinction of logging over 40 million miles without an accident. Wayne was a major baseball and football enthusiast at both college and professional levels and had an encyclopedic memory for player stats and background information, often beating the broadcast color commentators to the punch without aid of a computer. He also enjoyed reading and working the daily crossword and crypto quote puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family. His retirement years kept Wayne busy. He joked that he earned the literal meaning of his name "builder of wagons"and fences, and play houses, and birdhouses, and pergalas, and treehouses and the never ending list of projects that come with having a wife and two daughters. Every project he tackled was imbued with the same qualities that defined him as a person: steady, solid, true and with enduring strength. He is survived by his wife Mae of the home; daughters Kimmi Ray of Oklahoma City and Tammi Pierce of Norman; one grandson, Ryan Pierce and wife Krysi of Norman; a granddaughter, Emily Pierce; his great-grandson and best buddy, Easton Pierce; one brother Jack Ray and wife Jacque of Weatherford; as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie & Carl Ray, one sister, Pat Clay and one brother, Robert Ray. Jackson Funeral Home 923 W. Gladstone Frederick, Oklahoma 580-335-7447
